Hand surgery: 5 essential tips to recover well

After hand intervention, the aim is to protect reparation, limit the withdrawal and prevent complications. Here is a clear guide for the first days/weeks.

Important: respect strictly instructions from your surgeon (pants, splint, authorized movements). Do not change your exercises without medical validation.

  1. 1) Observe post-operative instructions

    Surgeon's instructions (type ofimmobilization, dressings, authorized movements, hygiene) are your driving thread. They reduce the risk of infection, bleeding or wound opening.
    Tip: Write down the instructions in your phone and schedule reminders (pansing, icing, medication).


  2. 2) Move parts not operated

    Even if the hand is partially immobilized, the mobility of the free fingers, wrist or elbow (according to medical agreement) to limit withdrawal and swelling.
    Tip: made of small movements several times a day, without pain or strength on the area.


  3. 3) Watch for unusual signs

    Persistent intense pain, sudden swelling, redness, heat or flow the wound must alert.
    Reflex: If in doubt, contact your surgeon or physiotherapist quickly.


  4. (4) Start rehabilitation as soon as possible

    Rehabilitation early and appropriate (at the time validated by the surgeon) helps to recover the mobility, the force and function.

  5. (5) Take care of the scar

    A scar flexible and well maintained promotes mobility and reduces long-term discomfort. Start it massage andhydration Only after complete closure and medical agreement (often around J15).
    Tip: daily short massages + sun protection (SPF 50+) as soon as authorized.

Recontact without delay if: fever, pain that wraps up, new tingling, loss of movement, odour/wound discharge.
